Abeokuta is the biggest city and state capital of ogun state in southwest nigeria.
Was founded about 1830 by Sodeke (Shodeke), a hunter and leader of the Egba refugees who fled from the disintegrating Oyo empire.
It is arranged on the east bank of the ogun river, almost a gathering of rough outcrops in a lush savanna, 77 kilometers 48 miles north of lagos by railroad, or 130 kilometers 81 miles by water.
